The octopus
My first sprawling vision corresponds to my first artistic memory, it took place when I was 5 years old, in the backstage at a musical in Caracas. This enormous organic machine, each member of which works to make the magic happen on stage, fascinates me.
Afterwards, it was the assistant director's job that took over me. I played the octopus whose eyes saw the whole and whose tentacles knew every detail "at their fingertips," it was a tree-like way of working.
I have lived in Venezuela, Finland and China, a total of 20 years of cultural and linguistic experiences that constitute a plurality of readings of the world around me, like a collection of truths to get closer to THE Truth.
In my work, the octopus represents this eutopian* way of apprehending the world through caresses and places us at the heart of tenderness, sensuality, desire and pleasure.
* εá½– eu- (“good”), and τÏŒπος, tópos (“place”), “the place of good”, relates to happiness
